Comfortable in Front of a Lens. Clear on the Message.

When a Phoenix producer found my AP award-winning journalism and reached out cold — this is what happened next.

After my mental health series earned an AP award, a Phoenix-based producer reached out. She'd found the work, liked what she saw, and wanted me for a video she was producing for Everyday Health — one of the web's largest health and wellness platforms. I hadn't pitched her. She came to me.

The segment drew on a wellness topic I know firsthand. That's part of what she was looking for — not just someone who could deliver lines cleanly, but someone who could speak with real authority and make it feel like a conversation rather than a performance. The video was shot in several locations: at home, on my bike, in a yoga studio, around the city. I'm the main focus throughout.

This is a small body of on-camera work, not a production background. But it came from journalism credentials, was earned through outreach I didn't initiate, and required exactly the same skill I bring to everything else: understand the material deeply, make it human, and trust the person watching.

The Camera Is Just Another Audience

Every medium has its own version of the same challenge: you have a limited window, a specific audience, and something you need them to understand. Radio taught me to make every word count. The classroom taught me to read the room and adjust. On camera, you do both at once.

What a producer is really looking for is someone who already knows the material — not someone performing expertise, but someone who actually has it. That's what the journalism built. The camera just gave it another place to go.
